A wonderful Inca kero, carved from wood, presenting a gracefully flared conical form, and meticulously decorated with several registers of incised geometric motifs. Skillfully hand-carved (rather than made on a lathe) and incised, this vessel was most likely used for drinking Chicha - a fermented corn beer favored by the indigenous. Condition
Age cracks with some separation. A pair of perforations to either side of the upper end of one crack indicates an old repair; natural fiber or sinew would have been threaded through these to tightly fasten the vessel.
