Item Details
Description
China, Tang Dynasty, ca. 618 to 907 CE. Large redware pottery horse on integral plinth. Standing with back legs slightly bent, head turned ever so slightly to the left, mouth open with combed mane parted neatly in rows down the left side of the upper neck, saddle placed upon his back. There is a hole where a tail - either real horse har or wood - would have been placed, lost to time. The Tang dynasty was a period of relative calm and posperity for a newly reunified China. Under Emperor Tang Taizong, China created a series of laws that were revised every twenty years, many of which survived well into the Ming dynasty. Size: 16.5" L x 5.75" W x 17.5" H (41.9 cm x 14.6 cm x 44.4 cm)
