A beautiful set of French Sterling Silver grapefruit spoons, or citrus spoons. The 6 spoons measure 6 inches each and have a beautiful gold wash finish to them. The finish has a lovely color, truly stunning and in great condition. At the finial, a delicate and intricate design of engine turned work and scrolling forms embellish the spoon. There spoons display an attention to detail, as is known of fine french silver-work. The spoons are pointed, to better be able to scoop out the citrus. There are several marks on all of the spoons. One is the boars head, which is the french hallmark for small silver guarantee. The other marks are the maker - Eusebe Callot (1847-1865) and the insect engraved "bigorne" grasshopper, an uniquely complex French mark that today is no longer in use. A profile head for 800 % silver is also on the handle of the spoon. The total weight of the spoons is 86 grams, or 2.7 troy ounces. The six spoons come arranged in an antique original, typically french wooden presentation box with a beautiful cream colored interior fabric. The box is made out of wood and enameled in black. it has some wear to the edges, but this is expected for a box that is over 150 years old. The lid also has a gold washed shield, which has not been monogrammed. Its the perfect silver spoon gift, ready for a new life.
