Description
Central Asia, Nepal, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A large, impressive, carved wood stamp decorated with stylized Nepali script, with a horse carrying a tall flame in the upper center of the piece. The horse wears decorative reins and is shown in mid-stride, as if racing away to his destination. The edges of the stamp have a flat, deepset border, and a small, square handle at the top. This stamp was most likely used for patterning textiles. Size: 7.1" W x 9" H (18 cm x 22.9 cm)

Potential very old losses to upper edge. All designs still very clear, with small areas of encrustation in the grooves. Dark patina on surface.
