Spongeware Figure of a Dog with Elaborate Three-Color Slip Decoration, Crooksville, OH origin, late 19th century, molded in the form of a boxer or St. Bernard, depicted with a collar or small liquor barrel around its neck, the surface covered in Bristol slip and decorated with circular blue-green sponging and brushed mustard slip highlights throughout. Additional darker cobalt slip highlights to face, tail, feet, and object at dog's neck. Possibly the finest example of this Ohio dog form we have ever handled. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a few smooth, unglazed in-the-firing contact marks to one side. H 6 1/2".
