The originals were general purpose knives, for camp work to cutting work, on shipboard, and for fighting if it so happened that a sword or axe was not available. The lobed pommel and guard are brass, and the wood grip is studded with brass tacks, for a very secure and comfortable grip. The blade is etched on both sides, flat ground, and capable of taking a razor sharp edge. The leather sheath is riveted and laced like the originals. Two slots are provided for thongs to tie to the waist belt. This functional dagger was made by Windlass Steelcrafts. It was carried and used by the Saxons, Angles, Viking and Germanic tribes. Its use probably dates before the fall of Rome and continues on into the early Middle Ages.
