RARE AKD LIMOGES HP CHARGER
RARE AKD LIMOGES HP CHARGER
Item Details
Description
Large Antique Limoges, factory hand painted and gilded charger by the highly regarded partnership of A. Klingenberg & the Charles Dwenger Decorating Studio (see D Albis & Romanet, Page #157). Our fantastic charger carries the proper AKD over France mark (Gaston & DuBay #8) positively dating it to between 1895 and 1910, and the charger is in excellent condition. This Limoges treasure Measures 12.50"x12.50"x1.25" tall and weighs 2 pds 10 oz. A. Klingenberg owned a Limoges porcelain factory & decorating studio from approximately 1880. Apparently, about 1895, Klingenberg & Charles Dwenger's decorating studio merged and the original AK stamp was replaced forever with the AKD signature. Although a relative small pottery, they actually made porcelain, did finish decorations, and exported their own wares. History also records the Klingenberg name in Limoges as early as 1867. Kittel & Klingenberg or Kittel Klingenberg Company was known as an exporter of Limoges during 1867-1872, then Klingenberg and Leonard until 1883, followed by simply Klingenberg ca. 1883-1887. The marks of these companies and their relation to A. Klingenberg are unknown. AKCD pieces are very collectible, and particularly valuable. Most of our Limoges qualifications including manufacturers identification, pricing and dating are accomplished by using the following outstanding references: Collectors Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain 3rd Ed. by Ms. Mary Frank Gaston; Living With Limoges, Antique Limoges at Home, Collecting Limoges Porcelain Boxes to Vases (set published from 2001-2004), and Antique Trader Limoges Price Guide 2007 / all by Ms. Debby DuBay; La Porcelaine de Limoges (Paris Edition) / by Jean D Albis and Celeste Romanet. References to marks will employ the accepted numbering systems used by both Ms. Gaston and Ms. DuBay.
