Tanaka Ryohei (Japanese, 1933-), "Yokaichi", etching, lower margin with the signature, numbered 157/150, dated 1979, sight:5"h x 5.5"w, overall (frame): 18"h x 16"wx1"d. Weight is 2 pds 10 oz. PROVENANCE: A Private Annapolis MD / Charleston SC Estate. Tanaka Ryohei (Japanese b. 1933) is world renowned for the fine detail and intricate effects that he achieves in his etchings. Born in Takatsuki City outside of Osaka, Ryohei began his career studying etching under Professor Furuno in 1963. One year later, he became a member of the Kyoto Etchers Group. In 1976, he began exhibiting with the Japan Print Association. Ryohei has won a numerous awards in Japan, Europe and the U.S., and today is one of the most popular Japanese contemporary print artists. Ryohei Tanaka’s prints are widely collected and can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
