lx, 1218 pp. (8vo) 18.5x11 cm (7¼x4¼") finely rebound in full green crushed levant morocco, bordered and paneled in gilt on covers, spine gilt, gilt dentelles, all edges gilt. Morocco onlays on front and rear covers in multiple colors depicting characters from the book with gilt quotations below.
On the front are anthropomorphic illustrations of a magnet and butter churn with the quotation beneath reading: "If I can wheedle a knife or needle, why not a silver churn?" On the rear is a juggling jester with the quotation reading: "For he who'd make his fellow creatures wise should always gild the philosophic pill!" Bound by Riviere & Son.
