Description
Here is a George IV Sterling Silver Vinaigrette by Ledsam Vale having a full set of Birmingham Hallmarks for 1823. This is a lovely English sterling silver vinaigrette. The top has beautiful brite cut floral work with a blank cartouche. The back has a simple central floral decoration. This handsome vinaigrette has a gilt interior and a gilt, hinged screen in excellent working order. The box is 1 1/4" long, 3/4" wide and 5/8" thick, weighing 9 grams. The vinaigrette was an essential fashion accessory at the beginning of the 19th century, it contained scented vinegar on a sponge. Ledsam and Vale (1818-1826) were highly regarded silversmiths of their time.
