Description
UNITED STATES, 19TH CENTURY A large and rare American cast zinc sculpture of the dog of Alcibiades. The sculpture was finely cast capturing all the details of the original. The original, now housed in the British museum was discovered in approximately 1754 and later found to be a Roman copy of an earlier Hellenistic Grecian bronze statue. The sculpture is now named after its first modern owner Henry Constantine Jennings (1731-1819).
Condition
The lower extremities will need restoration, 90% of parts (paws and tail) are present.
