Description
RUSSIA, CIRCA 1830 A fine Russian patinated and ormolu bronze sculpture of a Mamluk soldier. The soldier is depicted on horseback wearing a billowing lampas robe with incised tendrils holding a mameluke sword. The horse is naturalistically rearing with a flowing mane and is finished in an aesthetically contrasting dark patination. Notice the intricacies of the horse's flared nostrils and individualized teeth. The sculpture is unsigned but of the finest quality.
Condition
One of the stirrup straps is detached, missing plume on hat. Otherwise very good original condition.
