Cars and Red Cross Chess Set, circa 1982

Alfred Bradler (Austrian/ b. 1942)
Each King in an open coupe Jaguar, Queens alternately in an XJ6 and XJ12 Jaguar, Bishops are Porsche cars, Knights comprised of Fiat Fiorino, Red-Cross Towers are Fiat 242s, White and Red Pawns are alternately VW land and dune buggies. Bradler, a designer and artist, created this set for the Jaegers as a conceptual and functional art work assembled from toy cars he collected in the late 1970s and early 80s.
King is 5.5 cm and Pawn 4.2 cm long
Exhibited: Munich, Staatliches Museum fur Volkerkunde,1988
Staatliches Museum fur Volkerkunde (founded 1862) is now the Museum Funf Kontinente (Five Continents Museum, Munich, Germany).
