Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Inca, ca. 1500 CE. Large terracotta vessel of classic Inca form (A form developed and only used by the Inca in the ancient Americas). Redware jar designed to be fired with a black finish but misfired in the kiln giving it a red and black appearance. Neck with black base and white bands along with negative resist bands running vertically down the front and sides, reverse with added white net pattern. Even with flaws, still a large and fine example! Size: 8.5" W x 11" H (21.6 cm x 27.9 cm)

Condition
Intact and generally excellent. Paint misfired due to improper oxygen mix and slight depression to one side from the misfiring.
