Paint Decorated Softwood Blanket Chest, Attributed to John Flory. (Rapho Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania). Inscribed "Petar Apkar, Juni 9, 1766". Six pointed star and tulip decoration. Molded lid, interior till, wrought iron strap hinges and box lock, iron heart shaped key escutcheon, dovetailed case and molded base. For a related example see "Pennsylvania-German Decorated Chest" by Monroe H. Fabian, page 155 figure 136. 24-1/2"h. x 50"w. x 21-1/2"d. Condition: Overpainted in red, inscription scraped down, replaced turned feet. Separation on lid and wear.
