Two late papal documents, manuscripts in Latin, on parchment [Italy (Rome), dated 24 May 1647 and 20 June 1674] Two large single sheets. (a) record of appointment of Richiadei, cleric of Brixen as Apostolic Protonotary by Pope Innocent X (r. 1644-55), 19 long lines in a fine curling bookhand, Innocentius ppx at head in capitals, 7 line contemporary endorsement in scrawling hand and signature of Vatican official at base, lower left-hand corner with red wax seal under paper (traces of red wax on corresponding upper corner from transfer when folded), endorsements and traces of red wax on reverse, folds and small stains, else good, 320 by 445mm.; (b) Judgement of Pope Clement X (r. 1670-76) on a dispute over the will of Bartolomeo Volpi, concerning a bequest for the university (probably of Rome), 20 long lines in an ornate bookhand, Clemens ppx at head in capitals, signature of Vatican official at base and endorsements and traces of red wax on reverse, large foldmark in centre, else good condition, 290 by 400mm.
