Description
A large ancient Bura culture funerary ceramic figure from the Niger River Valley of Mali or Niger, c. 11th-15th Century AD, in the form of a bearded male with protruding tongue and scarification. 11 in x 6 ½ in (28 x 15.7 cm). A nice example with good age deposits. Collected in the 1960's and purchased from either the Harry Franklin Gallery of Beverly Hills or Gaston de Havilland of New York City.
