Description
STAMPED (TWICE) "J.MILLER / ALEX", ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA STONEWARE JUG, salt-glazed, approximately one-gallon capacity, ovoid form with incised shoulder ring, collared mouth, and strap handle with medial ridge, clamshell-pattern cut-off lines under base. James Miller (active 1797-1827), Alexandria, VA. 1824-1826. 12" H.
Undamaged except for a very faint hairline to body right of handle.

Provenance: From a Virginia private collection.
Catalogue Note: Signed James Miller vessels are extremely rare. The late Eddie Wilder recorded only two additional examples with the Alexandria stamp.
