Description
1886 Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes Illustrated Children’s Baby Bunting Literature
“A diller, a dollar, a ten o’clock scholar!
What makes you come so soon?
You used to come at ten o’clock,
But now you come at noon.”
– “Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes”, The Ten O’Clock Scholar
A rare illustrated edition of famous Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes. This book includes all of the famous rhymes such as “Carrion Crow”, “Peas Porridge Hot”, “Bye, Baby, Bunting”, and “Hey Diddle Diddle.” However, many of the rhymes are printed with alternate text that is different from the accepted text – for instance, in “Peas Porridge Hot,”
“Peas pudding hot, peas pudding cold, peas pudding in the pot, nine days old. Some like it hot, some like it cold, some like it in a pot nine days old.”
Note the difference in the word ‘pudding’ as opposed to ‘porridge’ in the more accepted and well-known version.
Each page of this fine work includes at least one woodcut sketch of some aspect of the story. Frontispiece in color of “Hey Diddle Diddle.”
