A WHITE AND RUSSET JADE 'BAT AND PEACHESâ' SNUFF BOTTLE
Nephrite of even celadon color with a layer of wavy russet veins. Smooth and not too shiny finish. China, 1750-1850

Masterful carving in distinct relief depicting a branch of peaches emerging from a rock, with a large bat flying above the scene. The russet veins cleverly used to emphasize the rockwork.

Shape: Flattened square form with rounded shoulders
Hollowing: Very good
Mouth, neck and lip: Short and slightly sprawling cylindric neck, flat top, small mouth and short inner cylinder
Base: Oval shape and broad raised foot rim
Stopper: Coral with spoon
Height of the bottle with stopper: 7.4 cm
