HORSTMANN, PHILADELPHIA EAGLE-HEAD WAR OF 1812 TYPE MILITIA / INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD, straight single-edged blade with spearpoint, half-length fuller, engraved with scrolling foliate decoration, and incised "W.H.H. & S." to one face of blade, and "Philadelphia" to other, brass knucklebow guard, upturned quillion, and eagle-head pommel, reeded ivory grip. Brass scabbard stamped "HORSTMANN" and "421". W. H. Horstmann & Sons, Philadelphia, PA. Second quarter 19th century. 27 1/4" L blade, 32 1/8" LOA.
Good condition overall, expected patina to brass elements, minor corrosion to ricasso, minor denting to scabbard, blade with moderate denting to edge, particularly toward point.
