Description
GERMAN STATES SAXONY-ALBERTINE 1802-IEC 1/3 THALER SILVER COIN., Together with a German States Hannover 1832-A 16 Gute Groschen silver coin, retaining some luster. Two pieces total.
1802 Saxony-Albertine appears VG to F. 1832 Hannover appears VF to EF. Not professionally graded.
Provenance: Property from a Frederick Co., MD estate.
Catalogue Note: The present example comes from an excellent collection of rare coins discovered in a Frederick Co., Maryland estate. The first half of the collection, featuring early American dollars and half dollars, was offered by Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates on June 18, 2016, and the firm is pleased to offer the second half of the same collection in the present auction. Completely fresh and unrecorded, the collection appears to have been assembled beginning as early as 1904, and many examples offered in the current sale retain their original paper sleeves, which bear type-written notations from the collector. Additionally, a collection inventory, possibly compiled in the 1910s, records the purchase price of many of the coins currently offered, affording us a rare glimpse into the early years of numismatic enterprise and further emphasizing the fresh, unrecorded quality of the collection presently up for auction.
