AN AMBER ‘BAT AND DOVE’ SNUFF BOTTLE, QING DYNASTY, MID-18TH / MID-19TH CENTURY
Translucent honey toned amber with natural crazing and smooth polish to surface . China, 1750-1850

Elegantly carved in light relief to depict a bat flying above a dove resting on serrated rockwork, as a symbol for longevity and fidelity. Lingzhi and high grass emerges from the rocks. The bottle itself cleverly carved in the shape of a rock.

Hollowing: Excellent, internal silhouette matching the outside
Mouth, neck and lip: Succinct to body, small mouth
Base: Flat, succinct to body
Stopper: Green amazonite, carved in the shape of a tendril
Height of the bottle: 5.9 cm
Width of the mouth: 5 mm
Width of the neck: 15 mm
Condition: Mint condition with some natural imperfections
Provenance: American private collection, old collectors label with number “124” on bottom

巧妙地雕成壽帶鳥坐在鋸齒型岩石上, 蝙蝠在周圍飛, 表示長壽、忠誠的意思. 岩石中有靈芝野草. 壺形微妙雕成岩石的樣子.
