Description
A COLONIAL CARVED OAK COFFER, 17TH/18TH CENTURY, WITH SOUTH AMERICAN AND CONTINENTAL INFLUENCE, the rectangular lid opening to interior storage over a large pierced crescent moon wrought iron escutcheon with a strap latch, over a case carved with two Sun of May style medallions, in the Louis XIV taste, centering a carved cross over a radiant fan, flanked by large dovetailed sides on square legs joined by a shaped skirt. Height: 32 1/4" Width: 62 7/8" Depth: 27 1/2"
Condition
There are various scratches, gouges, exposure to woodworm, minor wood fill repairs and losses to the carving. The interior now lacking a candle box, otherwise in very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
