A LATE MUGHAL EMPIRE CARVED TEAK DAMCHIYA (WEDDING CHEST), CIRCA 1830-1850, LIKELY FROM THE REIGN OF THE 19TH AND LAST MUGHAL EMPEROR BAHADUR SHAH II, the trefoil cornice above a leaf carved edge, over a palm tree guilloché carved frieze, above four rectangular flowering foliate carved inset panels interspersed by high relief carved bird capital brackets, centering a single cupboard door decorated with four carved flower blooms and wrought iron strapwork, over geometric and flower fretwork carved inset panels above an adorsed peacock and butterfly carved skirt, over fragments of a leafy bloom carved apron, joining jeweled bracelet adorned hairy paw feet. There are various losses to the carving throughout, rub wear, added iron and brass supports, some professional wood and fill repairs, and one hinge lacking. There is also an apparent exposure to woodworm, otherwise in fair to good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
