Description

A JAPONISME BRONZE, MOTHER-OF-PEARL AND BONE MOUNTED ÉTAGÈRE CABINET, LAST QUARTER 19TH CENTURY, IN THE MANNER OF GABRIEL VIARDOT (FRENCH 1830-1906) PROBABLY PARIS, the pagoda style upper shelf with two upward shaped edges centering a pierced scrolled roundel medallion crest over an incised river scene inlaid with two carved mother-of-pearl and bone figures within tapered square supports, above a top with opposing upward and downward shaped sides, over a wide beveled glazed cupboard door opening to an interior fitted with two brown velvet lined concave shelves within two glazed panel sides, on a surmount with cabriole legs ending in carved paw feet, joined by an upper scrolled cloud form shaped skirt centering a bronze relief dragon mask mount over two curled edge shelves, above a lower stretcher shelf. Height: 69" Width: 24 1/4" Depth: 12 1/2"

Condition

There are some minor chips and wear to the varnished surface, which may have a later professional finish and some brown paint repairs. The velvet shows some age. There some occasional expected minor surface scratches, but otherwise in very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
