Description
Bailey & Co (American (Philadelphia) 1830-1866) and Samuel Kirk & Son (American (Maryland), 1815-1979), mid 19th & turn of 20th century. An American sterling creamer and sugar with Landscape and Architectural in repousse; the mid-19th century handled sugar made by Bailey & Co with touchmarks on the bottom consisting of an "S" in an oval touch, with two different lion touchmarks, and a shield (These are the marks that Bailey & Kitchen developed to denote STERLING - "S" in an oval - starting in 1855, when George Sharp was running their silver shop). Also hallmarked "BAILEY & CO/156/CHESTNUT ST PHILA". The early 20th century creamer with matching landscape scene hallmarked "S.KIRK & SON CO/925/1000/2453". Approximate height of sugar 3.87" (at handle), width 6" (handle to handle), diameter of base 3.37", approximate weight 6.55 troy ounces. Approximate height of creamer 4" (at handle), width 4.75" (handle to spout), diameter of base 3", approximate weight 6.77 troy ounces.
