John Jefferis (English (Cirencester/Gloucestershire) ,active 1747-1757), mid 18th century. George III oak long case clock having a 12 inch break arched dial with brass chapter ring with Roman numerals and Arabic minutes with subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture over the signature engraved "John Jefferis" above "Ciren Cester" within urn and scroll spandrels, the arch centered with medallion etched with flying phoenix and "Tempus Fugit" flanked by dolphin and scroll cast mounts, the hood surmounted with brass eagle and ball finial above the arched glazed door flanked by free standing turned columns with long trunk door on solid base with bracket plinth. Approximate height 86.5", width 18.75", depth 9.75".
Condition
Case is missing finials. Door lock on trunk is missing; catch is replaced as is escutcheon. Scattered patches/repairs. Cracks to the backside of trunk. Scattered chips and nicks. Clock is ticking and will strike (hourly). Movement is in need of cleaning/servicing. No keys present.
