English, early 19th century. George III mahogany linen press in two sections, the upper having a molded and dentilated cornice over a pair of paneled doors opening to an interior fitted for wardrobe shelves, the lower section with two short over two long graduated drawers, all beaded with individual locking mechanisms and raised on shaped bracket feet. Retailed label to the backside for "ANTOINETTE'S ANTIQUES/4401 Old Shell Rd/Mobile, Al 36608/(205)344-7636/A89 167/2". Approximate height 78.37", width 49.75", depth 23".
Condition
Structurally sound. Areas of cracks, losses, patched repairs, veneer lifting and bubbling; some veneer loss. Paneled doors with repairs to molding. Hardware replaced. Wardrobe shelves difficult to slide; upper interior with replaced slides/runners. Seams to the drawer faces present; drawers rebuilt. Middle drawer missing escutcheon. Hole drilled in upper section. Shrinkage present.
