Description
French, 1850s. Charming French gilt metal souvenir likely purchased by a Grand Tour traveler during the Universal Exposition of 1855, featuring a hand crocheted 'bag' sewn to the gilt metal base covered in fancy ormolu filigree with repeating festoons, scrolls and flowerheads and mounted with four verre eglomise inserts, each depicting a historic French landmark. Apparently unmarked. Accompanied on later circular wood base with glass cloche cover. Overall approximate height 7.75", diameter of wood base 5". Souvenir approximately 5" x 4".
