Description
Chinese, 20th century, possibly earlier. Hand carved hardwood deity figure depicting Shou Xing (also known as Shou Hsing), God of Longevity, standing at full length portrayed as an old man with large bald head, leaning on a gnarled staff or cane and holding the golden peach of immortality. According to legend, the fruit matured every three thousand years. Unmarked. Approximate height 14.8". Provenance: From the Collection of Mr. Gerald Darby, Owner of Darby Mitchell Antiques of Atlanta, Georgia.
