Description
Charles Rennie Mackintosh (Scottish, 1868-1928) by Cassina (Italian, founded 1927), circa 1980s. A pair of Hill House black lacquered ashwood chairs, each with a tall, thin ladderback with an upper grid, extending to the base, over a green velvet seat with double turned rod side stretchers and a single front stretcher. Label to underside. Approximate height 55", width 16.125", seat depth 12", seat to floor 17". Note: A noted architect, interior designer, and artist, Mackintosh originally designed the Hill House chair in 1902 for the Hill House in Helensburg, Scotland. Inspired by Japanese design, the chair was intended to be decorative rather than functional, given the delicate form and dimensions.
