刘文西，1933年生于浙江省嵊州市长乐镇水竹村，当代画家。刘文西勇于探索创新，善于在历史生活和现实生活中寻找感动自己的题材，进行典型化的思考与提炼，并最大限度地用自己的绘画创作能力去刻画人物和处理作品诸要素的协调整合，力求达到思想深度和艺术高度的完美统一。刘文西以擅画陕北、画活了陕北而蜚声画坛，他以大量动人的作品和高尚人格，与西安美院为主体的实力画家，共同创立了世界闻名的“黄土画派”。以此奠定了中国当代国画大家的地位。
