Cartouche shows Indians with a bow, arrow and a peace pipe. Scale covers 8 systems of measuring distance, decorated with 2 Indian women, an Indian in a hammock, and wildlife. Cartouche: AMERIQUE MERIDIONALE DIVISEE EN SES PRINCIPALES PARTIES OU SONT DISTINGUES LES UNS DE AUTRES LES ESTATS… Sanson is credited in both the upper margin and the cartouche. In the cartouche, the dedication to the Dauphin is by Hubert Jaillot. From an edition of “Atlas Nouveau.” On 2 sheets, joined. Outer edge of border: 22 x 34 ½ in. Hand coloring is at least partly later. Couple barely noticeable tears to lower left. Sight condition otherwise near fine. Matted, under glass. Not examined out of frame.
