Description
History of the Campaign for the Conquest of Canada in 1776, from the Death of Montgomery to the Retreat of the British Army under Sir Guy Carleton. Place Published: Philadelphia Publisher: Porter & Coates Date Published: 1882 Binding: Hard Cover 9-1/2 x 6-1/8 inches, xiv, 234pp. including appendices and index. Original black cloth with gilt type on spine with a couple of stains on the front board and some minor bubbling of the cloth and an old library number blacked out on the spine. Insides are clean, short closed tear on the first contents page on right border, otherwise, in very good+ condition 8 single page engraved portrait plates as called for. Charles Henry Jones writes of his ancestor, Colonel Jonathan Jones (1738-1782) with the First Pennsylvania Regiment, the regular Continental Army. The huge bonus for this book is being an association copy owned, signed and some personal notes by his relative, ???? Jones. On the dedication page ??? Jones writes: "Also my great grandfather. The author Chas. Henry Jones was the eldest son of Hon. J. Glancey Jones, an influential chairman of the Committee of Ways & Means in Congress during the 1st year of Pres. Buchanan's term, an subsequently US minister to Austria. Glancey was 1st cousin of my father [Geo.?] Jones." There a a couple of other pages in the book where ??? Jones handwritten notes.
