This is the first issue (creditor, line 10, page 32; Dead Rider illustration), of Italian Tales. Tales of Humour, Gallantry, and Romance, Selected and Translated From the Italian, with 16 Cruikshank illustrations. The cover (app. 7.25" x 4.75), calf spine and corners, marbled boards, is bumped at the corners and with a split at the top front of the spine. The boards are scuffed, with some color loss. The decoration at the spine is bright and clean, with the title clearly legible. Front and back covers are connected, with some play at the front. The inside (253 pages) is very good, with the pages consistently clean, and all text unfaded. The 16 Cruikshank woodcuts are in excellent condition (see photos). There are no stamps or other attachments. The only notations are a few pencil references on the front pages. There are surface cracks to the inside cover gutters, but the binding is secure, with no loose or missing pages. There are no notable stains, and only superficial creases - no sharp or pronounced creases
