(lot of 2) William Hammond Hall original Golden Gate Park renderings circa 1872 the first shows a highly detailed rendering of the park proposal including yet to be named streets cutting through the park the panhandle with a proposed road through the panhandle named The Avenue Drive meandering through proposed landmarks including a grotto Speeding Course stables nursery etc. pre 1906 landmarks including Laurel Hill Cemetery Masonic Cemetery Calvary Oddfellows Cemetery and many street grids some having different names reflecting the pre 1906 grid together with a topographical map also rendered by Hall and drafted at Strawberry Hill One with Hall stamp and titled Golden Gate Park Plan A40 one with script and Strawberry hill verso each linen backed sheet 23""h x 59"" Note: William Hammond Hall (1846 - 1934) was the first State Engineer of California and designed Golden Gate Park in San Francisco CA. The citizens of San Francisco were considering building a grand park for their new and growing city. The city designated a tract of 1 013 acres stretching out to the ocean that was known as the ""outside land."" In 1870 the Park Commission solicited bids for a topographical survey which was awarded to Hall. After the successful completion of that task he was appointed Golden Gate Park's first superintendent in 1871.
