LAMBTON FAMILY CUT STRAWBERRY DIAMOND ARMORIAL FINGER / WASTE BOWL, colorless lead glass, featuring the Lambton family coat of arms above the motto "Le jour viendra" (The day will come), scalloped rim, base cut with fans, tiny diamonds, and rays. Probably from the 239-piece service made for John George Lambton (1792-1840) who was Lord Privy Seal from 1830 to 1833, became Viscount Lambton and earl of Durham in the same year (1833), and served as lieutenant governor and governor general of British North America in 1838 and 1839. A decanter from this service is in the Corning Museum of Glass collection, accession 2009.2.35. Probably Wear Flint Glass Co., Sunderland, England. Circa 1825. 3 3/4" H, 5 3/8" D rim.
Undamaged except for a shallow chip to rim.
