Description
Pair of 19th century Continental gilt silver octagonal base candlesticks. Figural Mythological serpents, urn and mask medallions and floral decoration. Possibly Italian. Tiny hallmarks. One bobeche missing. 9-3/4" h. 31.8 ozt.

Provenance:

Dr. Jesse Greenberg was born on June 2, 1926 in Englewood New Jersey. His parents Nellie Greenberg and David Greenberg owned a china and giftware store in Englewood New Jersey. He graduated from Rosalind Franklin School of Medicine in in Chicago in 1954. Prior to this he served 4 years in the US army. He practiced medicine in Englewood New Jersey in his private practice and worked as an internist at Englewood hospital for many years. He spent half of his time in New York City with his lifetime partner William Faraminian enjoying the ballet, opera and the arts. They traveled all over the world collecting fine art. They frequented the Museum of art in NYC and generously supported the arts. Their passion for artwork and antiques inspired them to collect various art pieces at auctions in NYC over 50 years. In addition to art they strongly supported the gay rights movement as it progressed from stonewall to equality knowing the controversy that existed that could have impacted both men negatively on a professional level. Today they celebrate the love of each other and the love of art for over 50 years.
