Description
This is a Taisho Era (c. 1915-20) haribako (sewing box) with a unique arrangement of four drawers and an additional fifth area located in the flip top lidded section. The top area is divided into two sections with an extra insert. The face of this chest is made of a beautiful burled mulberry wood. This tansu chest was used to store valuables as well as equipment for the person of the house to do repairs on Kimono and bedding as well as money and valuables. All drawers run smoothly and the lidded top opens and closes with ease. In excellent well cared condition. Measures 11.50"x7"x9". Weight 3 pds 8 oz. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate
