Description
Experimental Rookwood Standard glaze charger with painted and incised image of a young woman, the work of Anna Valentien in 1898. The profile of the sitter is outlined with simple incised lines and color is added for hair and dress. Marks include the company logo, which indicates the date, Trial shape T 1061 B, Cincinnati Art Museum acquisition number 457:02 in red paint and the incised initials of the artist. Diameter is 12 1/2 inches. Fine overall crazing. Listed in Burt, “2,292 pieces of early Rookwood Pottery in the Cincinnati Art Museum in 1916” as item 126 on page 130. “Plaque T 1061 B, A.M.V. Standard-Dec has incised outline.” The foot rim has three factory apertures for hanging.
