Description
Tom McCanna “Enough Bones” teapot, a commentary in clay about the loss of life during the AIDS crisis. Pictured is a dog with human head having a large grouping of bones scattered about. The man-dog is done in a gold luster glaze and the rest of the work in a curdled white glaze with red highlights. Rusty steel wire encircles the base and the phallic spout and also holds two ceramic tags, one reading P-TOWN and the other GAYTOPIA. Unsigned. Height is 8 5/8 inches and width is 12 1/4 inches. Excellent condition. Illustrated in “A Complexity of Social Issues Ceramic Art of Thomas McCanna” by Thomas Folk in Ceramics Art and Perception, International, issue 22, 1995 on page 54. A photocopy of Dr. Folk’s article is available to the purchaser.
