Description
Jagoo -"Der Wunderding-Erzahler" Chippawa Indianer, Plate 23. Rudolph Cronau (1855 - 1939). Lithograph. Leipzig: Verlag Von T. O. Weigel & Dresden: Lichtdruck Von Rommler & Jonas, 1855. 12 x 17 1/2 inches paper size, 7 7/8 x 11 1/4 inches image size. On special assignment for the German newspaper, Die Gartenlaube, Rudolph Cronau came to America to document its cities, frontier lands, and Native American populations for curious European audiences. His training at the Düsseldorf art academy, which emphasized careful draftsmanship, is clearly evident in these romanticized views of the American West.
