Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier (French, 1815-1891) etching titled "Three Guardsman Alexander Dumas" depicting a scene from the book of the same name, featuring two men drinking on horseback in a street. This piece is framed and matted under glass and is signed and dated "Meossonier 1876" to the lower right hand corner, with an illegible signature in pencil beneath the first signature. Remarque to lower left. Gilt frame measures 28" in height by 24" in width with the sight image measuring 16-1/2" in height by 11-3/4" in width. All measurements are approximate. In overall good condition consistent with age. Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier (French, 1815-1891) was best known as a French Classicist painter and sculptor famous for his depictions of Napoleon, his armies and military themes. He documented sieges and manoeuvres and was the teacher of Édouard Detaille.
