Details: 4Pcs This lot consists of antique military accouterments including a cartridge box, percussion cap box, Artillery hook buckle with leather belt and an additional Artillery belt buckle plate, all from circa the late 19th or early 20th centuries. This lot is from the estate of a well-known and well-respected lifetime Civil War collector in Upstate New York. Worth Auctions will feature scores of antique weapons, paintings, and unusual items.

The cartridge box, hinged and opening at the top, has "US" embossed in an oval on the front and two intact belt strap loops on the rear as well as a grommeted latch tab and filial knob. Brown leather lines the interior, and 20 cartridges can be held by tough fabric loops are on either side. The interior of the side embossed with "US" has two separate initial stamps on the leather below the cartridge loops which read "A.R. SMITH" and "WM&D". The cartridge loops have an opening of approximately 14mm and the box measures 6.5" x 4".

The percussion cap box is brown with an outer and interior flap, two intact belt strap loops on the rear between which are stamped the initials "LBG", and an intact latch tab and filial. The outer flap is embossed with a small "US" and inside the pouch in a thin metal sheath on the right corner a vent pick is found. Overall measurements are 3.5" W x 3.5" H x 1.5" D.

The belt has a round buckle with lovely red-patina which shows crossed cannons/field guns and the letters "US" in the horizontal cross spaces on the face. A loop on the edge of the buckle accepts the J-hook on the other side of the strap. A variety of closure holes run nearly the full length of the strap and a series of small circular marks on the buckle end may intentionally make the letter "A". Strap measures 39" x 1.75" and the buckle has a 1.757" diameter.

The additional belt plate is rectangular with raised rim and, lined field and repousse engraving of a cartouche within an olive branch wreath that shows an eagle volant facing its left upon a globe with flags, cannons, and guns crossed behind with "EXCELSIOR" in a banner between the wingtips. The rear has a strap slot bar running the short edge with two teeth and a tab hook on the other side for attachment. Measures approximately 3" x 2".

Condition / Notes: These items show a typical range of normal period wear, age and handling which may include patina, abrasions, rust, flaking or cracks to the leather and soiling. The strap on the belt bears a small curved cut near the hook end. The loose belt buckle has some bends to the edges that do not detract from its overall shape or how well it shows.
