United States of North America (Eastern & Central) T. J. Ettling, c1860 17 x 25. This great Civil War era map covers the country from the Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic seaboard. The map is engraved and detailed, and it shows existing railroads and several possible routes explored for the proposed Pacific Railroads. The tracks of Fremont, Gunnison and others are shown, as are numerous roads, marshes, forts and Indian tribes. Not an easy map to find. Published by Cassell, Petter & Galpin. Other than a repaired; centerfold split and a tiny dot this map and paper are in excellent condition.
