Description:
Green cloth-backed brown boards, pictorial jacket. First Edition.
Inscribed and signed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Jason Burrows/ with best wishes/ Harper Lee." First printing of the 1961 Pulitzer Prize Award-winning story that takes place during the Great Depression, and the basis for the classic 1962 film starring Gregory Peck. In an unrestored dust jacket with single review by Jonathan Daniels on rear flap, one of two issues of disputed priority, the other with two reviews by Shirley Ann Grau and Phyllis McGinley. Though often cited as a first issue jacket point, the blurb in green ink on the front flap by Truman Capote appears on both issues of the First Printing jacket, as it does here.
Condition
Jacket rubbed with scratches to front panel and spine, pronounced at joints and front folds, wear and some chipping at spine ends, 1" closed tear from top of rear joint, ¾" closed tear at top edge of rear panel; volume spine a bit darkened with minor rubbing, slight foxing to edges of text block; about very good, the jacket a little less so, but unrestored and not price clipped.
