Isidore Jules Bonheur (French 1827-1901) Bull, head turned, on an oval naturalistic plinth base Bronze, Signed and with PEYROL foundry stamp 31cm high, 48cm wide Bonheur was best known as one of the 19th century's most distinguished French Animalier sculptors. Bonheur began his career as an artist working with his elder sister Rosa, in the studio of their father, a drawing instructor named Raymond Bonheur. Initially working as a painter, Isidore Jules Bonheur made his Salon debut in 1848
