Description
18th-19th century AD. A restrung necklace of oblate mammoth bone beads. 121 grams, 65cm (25 1/2"). Acquired on the London art market prior to 1980. The mammoth is an extinct species of elephant that lived across much of the Northern hemisphere from five million years ago until four thousand five hundred years ago. The discovery of their remains proved popular curios in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and jewellery was made from their bones and ivory. [No Reserve]
