6th-9th century AD. A wooden stamp comprising a plano-convex base and balustered knop handle; carved image to the underside of a nimbate galloping horseman with billowing cloak above a standing lion. 99 grams, 75mm (3"). Property of a Middlesex lady; acquired on the London art market in 2007; formerly in a private collection formed in the 1980s.
